So I’m not one to take training or diet advice from others unless it’s someone I really respect or admire. This past month, I’m finding that some of the BEST advice comes from long time athletes — i.e. individuals who are 50years old & in incredible shape – better shape than I am at age 32. And it is my goal to be in better shape in 20years than I am now.
A couple weeks ago I purchased the UCAN Powder and bars based on some advice from Susan Loken and a couple of her athletes. Susan is in her 50’s and runs a 2:50 marathon 😲.
I’ve been using ucan before my workouts/runs and have had great energy during them.
Soon after buying the ucan, one of the guys that my husband works with also said he used ucan. “Moose” Herring is also in his 50’s, does ironman triathlons & places in them. And he’s an orthopedic surgeon! This week he sent me his experience with using ucan. Here’s a little from his testimonial:
“I’ve been doing long training and racing for a long time. I have tracked HR, pacing, perceived effort so any change either shows benefit, a burden or no difference. The data tells me UCAN is working. I use it early am prior to a longer session with bulletproof coffee… The biggest difference I see is the last 25% of a 2 hr session. I’m not Hungry… If I’m smart and keep my HR contained, then I can come back the next day with little to no affect.”

He actually got me a bottle of MCT oil to use. The basic premise of why the oil works is: “The middle chain fatty acids extend the the time for you at moderate effort before you have rescue with sugar or gu” (glucose/carb sources)
So I created my own version of UCAN rocket fuel. 🚀 I created it Friday to see how it turned out. It tasted good and did give me energy during the workday. During my long run today (15 miles), it worked awesome!
I’m excited to add this in to my training & nutrition, and hopefully become as great an athlete as Susan and Moose in the future! 🙂

- 1 scoop ucan
- 1tbsp mct oil
- 8-12oz hot water
- Blend in nutribullet
