Faith Training Plan

I always like to have a fitness plan that is outlined to reach a goal – even if I don’t follow it exactly, I still am doing something each day to make forward progress.  So, why not do the same thing for my spiritual body?

25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. (1 Corinthians 9:25-27 NLT)

Here is a PDF of the plan outlined below.  This is just a template I put together for myself to use as a guide.  (You will notice that my daily cardio has a dual purpose). I feel if I can do each thing on my chart for the day, that is progress, and something I can see as a concrete step towards growing closer to God.  Even on the days I don’t feel like it or just am not getting much out of the study, just putting God first and prioritizing time with Him is a step of faith.  Getting on our knees and listening for Him and reading His Word is something I imagine He smiles over.  It gives Him a chance to pour into us so we can shine a light on a earth that is growing dim.

Faith Training Plan

90min/day blend of studying God’s word, journaling, listening to sermons, praying

  • Podcasts & Pray while doing Cardio: 30-60minutes daily
    • Listen to ‘podcast of the day’
      • Note: I like listening to podcasts at 1.5speed, so I can listen to a faith and then a success/motivational/health/fitness podcast each day
        • The podcasts in the chart below are my favorites right now – feel free to swap out/in or use the schedule that I use below
        • Some of my favorite health/motivation podcasts are: The Fat-Burning man, “The Model Health Show”, “High Intensity Health”, Tim Feriss Show, Rich Roll Show, Sugar free Podcast, UpLift Nutrition
      • Pray during cardio – just talk to God. There are ideas for a prayer focus each day in the chart, but feel free to change it up.
    • Growth & Development: 30minutes daily
      • Bible Study & Journaling: 6 days a week
        • I find doing the Bible study workbooks give me something daily to complete and take a concrete step in growing/studying God’s Word
          • Some of my favorite workbooks are the ones by Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, and Elizabeth George … there’s a Lot of options though – those are just the 3 women I know have great studies that have played a big part in my faith journey over the years
        • YouVersion also has bible studies on the app, which are really good
        • Journaling: I use a notebook some days; there is room in the workbooks to journal as well so I will use those other days. I just record things that stick out to me in the bible study I do or prayer requests, or things that puzzle me that I am praying God will answer
      • Church and/or Small Group: 1-2 days a week
        • Being part of a church or community is great – I equate it to going to a group fitness class where there are a lot of people working towards a similar goal that I can relate to and learn from.
      • Fruits – Exercising Faith: 10minutes/day – listed below are some idea, but feel free to make up your own to
